Carving Vallalar Kottam

The Sacred Stone Engraving Art

Every stone in Vallalar Kottam begins its life deep within a mountain quarry — carefully selected, precision-cut, and seasoned before it is deemed worthy of Saint Vallalar's sacred words.

Each stone is then individually assigned its portion of the Thiru Arutpa, meticulously proofread by senior scholars, and crafted into a precision stencil — ensuring not a single syllable is lost to time.

At Vadalur, master craftsmen work 365 days a year — chiselling, engraving, and polishing every surface by hand, guided by ancient techniques passed through generations. Each stone, weighing up to a tonne, is carved on both sides, painted to illuminate the sacred text, and carefully preserved until the moment it takes its eternal place.

From quarry to monument, this is no ordinary undertaking. It is an act of profound devotion — one that transforms raw granite into a living testament to universal compassion, carrying Saint Vallalar's timeless message forward for all generations to come.

Ancient Wisdom. Expert Hands. Eternal Legacy.
